Nobody: A Dance-Circus Adventure

In November 2022, Motionhouse, Hull New Theatre and Absolutely Cultured proudly co-presented “Nobody: A Dance Circus Adventure”. The event was part of a series of pilots which aim to offer more opportunities to experience dance and physical performance in Hull.

Multimedia dance-circus production Nobody was fast-moving and highly physical, and explored the tension between our inner lives and how we make sense of the world around us.

Motionhouse’s unique dance-circus style combined with mesmerising choreography to tell the emotional and ultimately uplifting story of Nobody, full of twists and turns. In the blink of an eye, digital projections transformed the world onstage – a world of illusion and breath-taking spectacle packed with visual magic. These projections and the shape-shifting set created a constantly changing environment where nothing was quite what it seemed…

We followed seven characters on their journey of self-discovery to find strength and support in each other, while a group of curious crows questioned their every move. As they negotiated their ever-changing reality, the performers searched for answers as the world unravelled around them.

You can find a 15 minute documentary on the making of Nobody here.

There was a post show discussion with the performers and choreographer after the 7.30pm performance, and a Motionhouse dance class was hosted by Hull Dance on the 25 November aimed at local dance professionals.
