Bod Squad sessions, aimed at young artists, are underway at Humber Street Gallery.

Bod Squad sessions are for 12-16 year old artists and aim to widen and improve opportunities for young people to take part in creative activities outside of school.

Bod Squad sessions, which run at the gallery until December 20, are delivered by Alison Ollerhead, Lead Art Avenger for Arting, which aims to bring the joy of creating art to as many people as possible.

Alison said: “We want to help people to create their power through working in a range of ways in a non-judgemental environment that is educational and therapeutic but most of all enjoyable.

“Over the course of the Bod Squad sessions, there will be progression and development for young artists as, week by week, I work with them to explore different techniques and materials. All of the sessions will be linked to the exhibition programme at Humber Street Gallery, and themes and other artists linked to the city of Hull. During my years in teaching and running workshops I have seen how art can transform the lives of young people, giving them belief and new ways to express themselves and I’m very excited to be delivering the Bod Squad sessions.”

Dave Windass, Humber Street Gallery’s Engagement Manager, said: “We are really pleased that Arting are delivering these sessions for us. We’ve worked with Alison and her team of Art Avengers before and the sessions are always great fun, accessible, engaging and really enable young people to learn so much while they express themselves creatively.”

Bod Squad sessions will help young artists explore a range of techniques and different materials, and play a part in enabling young people to analyse and evaluate their own work, and that of others, in order to strengthen the visual impact or applications of their work. These sessions are part of Humber Street Gallery’s public programme, which also includes Early Bods sessions aimed at 3-5 year olds and Arty Bods, aimed at 5-11 year olds.
