We Are Still Planting Seeds, Fiona Caley

We Are Still Planting Seeds was part of a series of activities made by local artists and commissioned by Absolutely Cultured in response to an open call out for Creative Hull in 2021.

Imagine you are sat in a garden area in the centre of Hull by the river. Raised beds are nearby, there is a café serving freshly prepared food, a shop selling good local vegetables, produce and fresh herbs, a pizza oven and bakery and polytunnels. In front of you is a bright red art studio and in the centre of the site is an installation made from recycled materials. If you can imagine this, then you are very nearly there. Where are we? Where is this?

Rooted in Hull is an innovative growing and outreach project next to the riverside with the Red Container art space, home of the photographer and artist Fiona Caley, who constructed the installation and created the artwork.

“I am really excited to be part of this event, this past year has been full of change for so many of us. Come and see how we have found constructive ways to cope, as the project title says we are still planting seeds, I might add, of hope.” – Fiona Caley

With an opportunity to buy local artists’ paper crafts, including cards and books, We Are Still Planting Seeds was an experimental piece of artwork created and inspired by the events of 2020/2021.
