Originally conceived as a ‘pop-up’ contemporary art space, Humber Street Gallery has established itself as a key player in both the day and night-time economy of the Fruit Market since opening in February 2017, thanks to its cafe and bar as well as exhibition space.
Presenting work from artists including COUM Transmissions, Sarah Lucas, Rotterdam’s WORM, Crafts Council, Lee Price, Martin Parr, Olivia Arthur and Lee Karen Stow, the gallery attracted an audience of 121,000 in 2017.
Legacy funding from Absolutely Cultured and Arts Council England, which has invested £125,000 through the Grants for the Arts funding programme, will help cement Hull’s strong visual art offering.
Humber Street Gallery will continue as a leading gallery for contemporary art in Hull and regionally, with investment secured from Arts Council England for 2018/19.
