INTER_CHANGE artist development programme open to applications

Humber Street Gallery is seeking applications for INTER_CHANGE, our development programme for artists based in Hull and surrounding areas.

INTER_CHANGE aims to support artists with gaining confidence to navigate the artistic sector; encouraging them to sustain practice and become active peers within their artistic communities. Through discussions, workshops, events, a creative retreat and public presentations of new work, artists are invited to engage critically with each other in a programme specifically developed to support them at a pivotal point in their practice by engendering an environment of mutual support and exchange.

This iteration of INTER_CHANGE will be Humber Street Gallery’s fourth time running the programme. With learnings and insights from over 30 alumni we know that participation is particularly beneficial to artists who find themselves at a juncture in their practice. In the past this has looked like; artists who have been working in isolation but want to build a creative circle; artists who wish to expand their ways of working; artists who are navigating the artworld after education; as well as artists who have never had any formal training. Therefore, we are particularly interested in hearing from artists who can identify how participation might help to address a current and specific need in their practice and professional development, and why they believe INTER_CHANGE might be able to support this.

Artists are required to engage critically with each other, engendering an environment of mutual support and will be provided with resources and support to produce new work.

Critical goals of the programme:

  • Support and nurture artists;
  • Foster an environment of mutual support within the cohort; and
  • Contribute to the ongoing vitality and criticality of artistic culture in the Humber region by providing meaningful development opportunities.
