Dave Windass
Engagement Producer

Hi! I’m Dave and I’m the Engagement Producer at Absolutely Cultured.

I work across our creative programme to engage communities in our work, such as co-producing events with them and developing and delivering learning activities.

I am a producer of arts events with over two decades of experience. I’ve been involved with events such as BBC Contains Strong Language, Humber Mouth and Amy Johnson Festival.

For six years I was producer on Heads Up Festival, which was part of Battersea Arts Centre’s Collaborative Touring Network. I’ve worked freelance in publishing as an editor for independent publisher Wrecking Ball Press. I established the work of national literacy charity First Story in Hull and the Humber in 2016. I’ve also spent time as a lecturer at Hull School of Art & Design and the University of Hull and, in a past life, was an arts journalist.

I’ve also written over 30 pieces of work for theatre and live performance, working with E52, Hull Truck, Middle Child, Invisible Dust and others.

More recently my artistic practice has expanded into visual and sonic art and I’m exploring the potential of sound design, audio installation, protest posters and public spaces.

The things I’m most proud of are my four beautiful children and granddaughter, for bringing Heads Up Festival to Hull and for writing a biographical play about Hull sporting hero Clive Sullivan – Sully – which was premiered by Hull Truck in 2006.

I’m also a frustrated musician and pick up the guitar quite a lot, with varying results.
