Always Look Up, Tits & Bits (Alex Hunt)
Always Look Up is part of a series of five window displays made by local artists and commissioned by Absolutely Cultured, made in response to the theme of how arts, culture and creativity help to rebuild city centres post-lockdown.
You will find the other four located in and around Whitefriargate in Hull city centre.
Using butterfly wings to explore the detail of Hull’s historic beauty and the hidden details of everyday life, the artist looks at Hull through a lens of ever-growing potential, asking people to look upwards in times of hardship and to take a pause to reflect on the thing they love and what brings them joy. To be present and cherish the moment is not just a concept, it’s a way of life.
“I invite you to come down and take a look at some of Hull home grown talent. Take in the wonderful artwork that has been created for the people of Hull. With my particular concept Always Look Up don’t forget to stand between the butterfly wings and take some pictures. Tag us in them, we can’t wait for the wonderful community of Hull to become a part of the artwork themselves, as my art needs you. So come take a lil’ peak at what I’ve created. This whole concept is really about giving back to a place that has given me so much and being a part of healing Hull. I hope with this art we can bring that buzzin’ city centre back and help the community and other shops.” – Alex Hunt
Having moved away from Hull, artist Tits & Bits (Alex Hunt) relocated back to the city during the Covid-19 pandemic. Discovering a new appreciation for the city and inspired by its architectural beauty, this window design explores reconnection, positivity and holding onto hope.
Always Look Up uses illustration to create a fun and interactive display, where residents can become part of the art.
